Gameplay revolves around players determining who is who through group effort and voting to remove those suspected of being an imposter. When a player dies, they become a ghost and can assist in some ways with tasks or acts of sabotage but have little interaction with the remaining players. Imposters win if a critical sabotage event isn’t fixed or if there are an equal number of Crewmates and Imposters. The winner is decided when the Imposters have been identified, or all tasks are successfully completed, handing victory to the Crewmates. Imposters are given a similar task list in order to blend in but are really there to sabotage key components and eliminate Crewmates. Crewmates are supposed to identify and eliminate the Imposters and complete mini-game tasks around the world map.
Players are in groups of 4 to 10 and are randomly assigned to be a Crewmate or an Imposter. A planned sequel has been put on hold for InnerSloth to focus on updating the original version. Reviews of the game have been very positive though a surge in millions of new players revealed some weaknesses in the server system that the game developer, Innersloth, had to shore up quickly.
Among Us, the massively popular multiplayer game uses deduction and teamwork to figure out who is committing sabotage in a space-themed setting.
